You’ll file an amended return on a form 1040X for 2006, and show the original and the corrected numbers. Send along documentation of the changes.
Yes, it’s called filing an amended return. If you filed your taxes using Turbo Tax or some similar program, you can find an option for help with filing an amended return.
File an amended return with the office that prepared your 2006 return. You may be charged a fee and you’ll have to mail it in because prior year returns can’t be electronically filed.
