[Taxes are what run many of the 1000s of programs... ]

That is the socialist route of indoctrination you have grown accustomed to. A huge percent Those 1000s of programs are all unconstitutional and the government has no business in performing them. Not only that but the government performs them poorly and ineptly. Then there is the point that government tells people what to do in areas that, again, they have no business in.

You know eklypse, this is an imperfect world, with imperfect people running it. I agree, that there are programs not worth funding, but again, do we throw the baby out with the bathwater? We live in a nation that has more to offer than any other place in the world. We are in dire straights now, along with the rest of the world. Again, I agree that this country needs restructuring in the method of collecting taxes.

continued: I am far from being rich, so I really feel the pinch that taxes take from my income, especially being retired. If it wasn't for the fact that this nation benefited from that "socialist route" for many years, I might agree with you. Hope you voted, because the representatives we elect to "run" the big machine will be the proof in the pudding, sort to speak. Hopefully they will be able to work together to bring this nation back to what it was not so long ago. Not a easy task.

I raised my voice to my Congressman and my Senators before this 'bailout'. From a poll right on the government website, 72% of the PEOPLE were against the bailout. Only 12% were for the bailout.

The first vote went against the first bailout. But the second bailout ignored the will of the PEOPLE. Apparently, neither the body of congress nor the body of the Senate are doing the will of those who voted them in.

So, we may need a little more then words to affect change.

[... with the bathwater?]

I think we need to start phasing out the socialist programs and training our kids to save for items rather then max out their easy to get credit cards.

How much would the economy surge upwards if there were 30% real money per individual to either save, spend or just get out of debt.

Then a Congressman brought out a report that the United states will soon be in $45 trillion in debt if we continue this. That means over $150,000 owed per EVERY person. (babies included)

[... with the bathwater?] This is an old adage. What this essentially means is don't be in such a hurry to discard the bad that you throw out the good.

I agree eklypse, the US citizens know little about savings. Savings should be taught at a very young age, which it is not.

People do not think when they use their credit cards, it is called "instant gratification". At a period not so long ago, when credit card abusers tapped out, they file bankruptsy.

cont: Not accepting responsibility' for their actions.

Our debt has the flavor of a Third World economics. I find this alarming! People had better wake up.

Compensation for labor or services, paid in the form of wages or salary, has been universally held by the courts of this republic to be income, subject to the income tax laws currently applicable. . . . [Taxpayer] seems to have been inspired by various tax protesting groups across the land who postulate weird and illogical theories of tax avoidance all to the detriment of the common weal [sic] and of themselves. United States v. Romero, 640 F.2d 1014, 1016 (9th Cir. 1981).

Every court which has ever considered the issue has unequivocally rejected the argument that wages are not income. United States v. Connor, 898 F.2d 942, 943 (3rd Cir. 1990).

Here are the laws that (a) impose an income tax on you, (b) require you to file an income tax return, and (c) require you to pay taxes

Title 26
Sections 1, 61, and 63 impose the tax,
Section 6012 requires you to file a tax return if you have income of more than the exemption amount, and
Section 6151 requires you to pay the tax at the time and place fixed for the filing of your return.
